In the month of May museums take part in two international events that are used to endeavour to bring these institutions closer to society in a recreational and festive manner. Under the lemma Museums and Universal Heritage, International Museum Day is held on 18 May. On 19 May more than 2,000 museums all over Europe take part in the Night of the Museums. National Museums celebrate The Day and The Night through an extensive programme of activities in which they invite citizens to rediscover their collections
