Within the framework of the Year of Science 2007, the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology and the National Library organise the annual series Women also Research (Las mujeres también investigan), articulated as set of meetings between scientists and conservationists of recognised prestige in their professional area.
The cycle will be held once a month throughout 2007 and consists of a meeting between a prestigious female scientist and a conservationist of recognised prestige in his or her professional field. The researchers invited to the meeting will have the opportunity of telling the audience about their professional and personal career in an easy and friendly manner. Through the conversation and a set of questions formulated by the other party in the meeting, the speaker will relate in a documentary manner the most important milestones of her career, the current status of her research and the main contributions she has made in her discipline.
The first meeting took place on 15 February and was dedicated to María Ángeles Durán, Sociologist from the Higher Council of Scientific Research (CSIC), who was interviewed by Ángel Gabilondo, philosopher and Dean of Madrid Autonomous University (UAM).
On 21 March, the researcher who attended the event in the National Library was María Teresa Miras, chairwoman of the Royal Academy of Pharmacy, who talked to Joan Comella, Professor of Cellular Biology in the Basic Medical Science Department of the University of Lleida.
