Museum grants, aid and public entrance examinations

An essential part of the national museums are their human resources. The growing number of functions tackled by the museums, motivated by their social orientation, requires different professional profiles to achieve the objectives of conservation and promotion of the Cultural Heritage.

There are basically two ways of accessing the jobs that are part of the specific staff for the national museums: entry as a career civil servants through public entrance examinations and hiring as non civil-servant staff, normally through a tendering process.

Museology Scholarship Grants

The purpose of these scholarship grants is to encourage research and training for specialists in conservation, restoration, cataloguing, exhibition and dissemination of funds and collections at State-owned museums, managed exclusively by the General Department of Fine Arts and Cultural Assets and Archives and Libraries and other dependent areas.

A total of 30 grants are offered annually with a duration of nine months, aimed at individuals who are citizens of any of the countries in the European Union or of countries that have signed the European Economic Area Agreement and who have official university qualifications (degree or diploma).

The announcement is published in the Official State Gazette (BOE) during the last quarter of the year.

Cultural management grants

The purpose of these scholarship grants is to encourage specialisation in the administration and management of cultural programmes, through training periods in the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport's bodies and offices.

Each year, a total of 15 grants are offered with a duration of nine months (April-December), aimed at individuals who are citizens of any of the countries in the European Union or of the countries that have signed the European Economic Area Agreement and who have official university qualifications (degree or diploma), are able to certify initiation, experience, completion or qualifications or have academic certificates related to cultural management.

The announcement is published in the Official State Gazette (BOE) during the last quarter of the year.
