General information on the Documentation Centre for Books, Reading and Literature

The Documentation Centre for Books, Reading and Literature, under the authority of the Office for the Promotion of Spanish Books, Reading and Literature, originates from the dialogue and work conferences held from December 1998 onwards between the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports and the different associations in the sector. The establishment of the Centre came about to cover the information needs of users both from the Office itself and external users from other areas, such as experts, university students, journalists, technicians or scholars in the book sector.

The Documentation Centre for Books, Reading and Literature provides professionals, researchers and students working in the field of books, reading and Spanish literature with more than 8,000 documents including monographs, posters, journals, cassettes, videos and slides.

It also has its own resources which serve as useful tools for information searches. The documentation compiled includes press articles, reports, statistical data, legislation, surveys, leaflets, electronic resources, etc.

Objectives

Select, treat, store and disseminate specialised information in three areas:

  • Publishing industry: publishing production, domestic trade, foreign trade, edition, distribution, sales channels, new technologies in publishing, etc.
  • Promotion and reading habits. reading campaigns, experiences in encouraging reading, surveys, studies, statistics, dissemination material, etc.
  • Living Spanish literary authors. biographies, literary awards, bibliography, centenaries, etc.

Conducting studies, analyses and reports about relevant aspects related to the above mentioned fields.

Incorporation of the Archivo Histórico del Instituto Nacional del Libro Español (INLE) (Historical Archive of the National Institute of the Spanish Book), which disappeared in 1986, in its documentary collection.
