The library's collection is made up of over 25,000 books, 970 magazine titles, leaflets, programmes for festivals and events, and a section containing antique and special pieces, press cuttings, publications and film library programmes, press reviews, scripts, special archives and old magazines. It also offers a collection of over 5,000 recorded documents on different supports (graphite and vinyl records, CD, DVD, etc.), as well as music scores, studies and other documents.

Free access

All books and magazines located on the shelves of the various reading rooms are freely accessible to the public. These are modern books and magazines (post-1960). They are of the following nature:

• Reference books: encyclopaedias, dictionaries, filmographies, guides, directories, general introduction manuals to cinematography and to the universal history of cinema.
• Monographs about directors, actors and other professionals of the world of the films.
• Monographs about films.
• Theoretical essays, reviews by critics and cinephiles, aesthetic studies.
• Cinematography technical manuals.
• Books on the history of cinema and information on cinematography from all over the world.
• Manuals and studies of the different cinema genres and styles.
• Modern leaflets about the aforementioned topics.
• Current cinema magazines.

Restricted access

Documents stored in the library depositories are of restricted access. As well as documents of the same nature as those of free access, they also include press reviews, scripts, and material subject to specific levels of protection.

Special protection

These documents are specially protected and require a written request handed in to the librarians in advance. They are made up of the following documents:

• The library's reserve collection made up of books and leaflets about any topic prior to 1960.
• Section containing original scripts and dialogues.
• Old magazines.
• Modern magazines (titles not included in the free access collection).
• Film manual files.
• Archives of the Official Film School.
• Special archives (Buñuel, Romero Marchent, etc.).
• Press folder section.
• Press-book section
