History of the National Historical Archive Nobility Section

Document

The National Historical Archive Nobility Section is a state-owned centre directly managed by the Ministry of Culture, dependent on the General Department of Books, Archives and Libraries. It is a section of the National Historical Archive -centre created by Royal Decree on 28 March 1866- that has been operating independently since October 1993.

This cultural institution collects, preserves and disseminates the archives generated and received by Spanish nobility, which have been acquired by the State or entrusted to the archive by their owners for their use in research, culture and information. It is an open archive in which the collection is increased through donations or deposits by organisations or individuals, or acquisitions by the Ministry of Culture.
