About the General Administration Archive

The General Administration Archive (AGA) is, of the six national archives, the one that preserves our most recent history, as its collection is mainly restricted to the 20th century, and especially to its second half, although it also holds an important number of documents from the second half of the 19th century.

It is the third most extensive archive of the world (only the Federal Archives of Washington and the Cité des Archives de Fontenebleau are larger) and it is an essential point of reference for obtaining any record on architecture, town planning, public works, education, culture, tourism, economy, justice, etc. in the contemporary period, as it periodically receives the documents where the activities of the different bodies of the Spanish Central Administration are reflected.
